The map below comes from the Nuclear Emergency Tracking Center http://www.netc.com/ . It shows that radiation levels at radiation monitoring stations all over the country are elevated. As you will notice, this is particularly true along the west coast of the United States. Every single day, 300 tons of radioactive water from Fukushima enters the Pacific Ocean. That means that the total amount of radioactive material released from Fukushima is constantly increasing, and it is steadily building up in our food chain.

Ultimately, all of this nuclear radiation will outlive all of us by a very wide margin. They are saying that it could take up to 40 years to clean up the Fukushima disaster, and meanwhile countless innocent people will develop cancer and other health problems as a result of exposure to high levels of nuclear radiation. We are talking about a nuclear disaster that is absolutely unprecedented, and it is constantly getting worse. The following are 28 signs that the west coast of North America is being absolutely fried with nuclear radiation from Fukushima…

Wildlife experts are studying whether fur loss and open sores detected in nine polar bears in recent weeks is widespread and related to similar incidents among seals and walruses.

9. Back in 2012, the Vancouver Sun reported that cesium-137 was being found in a very high percentage of the fish that Japan was selling to Canada…

• 91 percent of the halibut
• 92 percent of the sardines
• 93 percent of the tuna and eel
• 94 percent of the cod and anchovies
• 100 percent of the carp, seaweed, shark and monkfish
10. Canadian authorities are finding extremely high levels of nuclear radiation in certain fish samples…
Some fish samples tested to date have had very high levels of radiation: one sea bass sample collected in July, for example, had 1,000 becquerels per kilogram of cesium.
11. Some experts believe that we could see very high levels of cancer along the west coast just from people eating contaminated fish…
“Look at what’s going on now: They’re dumping huge amounts of radioactivity into the ocean — no one expected that in 2011,” Daniel Hirsch, a nuclear policy lecturer at the University of California-Santa Cruz, told Global Security Newswire. “We could have large numbers of cancer from ingestion of fish.”
12. BBC News recently reported that radiation levels around Fukushima are “18 times higher” than previously believed.

13. An EU-funded study concluded that Fukushima released up to 210 quadrillion becquerels of cesium-137 into the atmosphere.

14. Atmospheric radiation from Fukushima reached the west coast of the United States within a few days back in 2011.

15. At this point, 300 tons of contaminated water is pouring into the Pacific Ocean from Fukushima every single day.

16. A senior researcher of marine chemistry at the Japan Meteorological Agency’s Meteorological Research Institute says that “30 billion becquerels of radioactive cesium and 30 billion becquerels of radioactive strontium” are being released into the Pacific Ocean from Fukushima every single day.

17. According to Tepco, a total of somewhere between 20 trillion and 40 trillion becquerels of radioactive tritium have gotten into the Pacific Ocean since the Fukushima disaster first began.

18. According to a professor at Tokyo University, 3 gigabecquerels of cesium-137 are flowing into the port at Fukushima Daiichi every single day.

19. It has been estimated that up to 100 times as much nuclear radiation has been released into the ocean from Fukushima than was released during the entire Chernobyl disaster.

20. One recent study concluded that a very large plume of cesium-137 from the Fukushima disaster will start flowing into U.S. coastal waters early next year…
Ocean simulations showed that the plume of radioactive cesium-137 released by the Fukushima disaster in 2011 could begin flowing into U.S. coastal waters starting in early 2014 and peak in 2016.
21. It is being projected that significant levels of cesium-137 will reach every corner of the Pacific Ocean by the year 2020.

22. It is being projected that the entire Pacific Ocean will soon “have cesium levels 5 to 10 times higher” than what we witnessed during the era of heavy atomic bomb testing in the Pacific many decades ago.

23. The immense amounts of nuclear radiation getting into the water in the Pacific Ocean has caused environmental activist Joe Martino to issue the following warning…

24. The Iodine-131, Cesium-137 and Strontium-90 that are constantly coming from Fukushima are going to affect the health of those living the the northern hemisphere for a very, very long time. Just consider what Harvey Wasserman had to say about this…
Iodine-131, for example, can be ingested into the thyroid, where it emits beta particles (electrons) that damage tissue. A plague of damaged thyroids has already been reported among as many as 40 percent of the children in the Fukushima area. That percentage can only go higher. In developing youngsters, it can stunt both physical and mental growth. Among adults it causes a very wide range of ancillary ailments, including cancer.
Strontium-90’s half-life is around 29 years. It mimics calcium and goes to our bones.
25. According to a recent Planet Infowars report, the California coastline is being transformed into “a dead zone”…

If you haven’t been to a California beach lately, you probably don’t know that the rocks are unnaturally CLEAN – there’s hardly any kelp, barnacles, sea urchins, etc. anymore and the tide pools are similarly eerily devoid of crabs, snails and other scurrying signs of life… and especially as compared to 10 – 15 years ago when one was wise to wear tennis shoes on a trip to the beach in order to avoid cutting one’s feet on all the STUFF of life – broken shells, bones, glass, driftwood, etc.
There are also days when I am hard-pressed to find even a half dozen seagulls and/or terns on the county beach.
You can still find a few gulls trolling the picnic areas and some of the restaurants (with outdoor seating areas) for food, of course, but, when I think back to 10 – 15 years ago, the skies and ALL the beaches were literally filled with seagulls and the haunting sound of their cries both day and night…
NOW it’s unnaturally quiet.
26. A study conducted last year came to the conclusion that radiation from the Fukushima nuclear disaster could negatively affect human life along the west coast of North America from Mexico to Alaska “for decades”.

27. According to the Wall Street Journal, it is being projected that the cleanup of Fukushima could take up to 40 years to complete.

28. Yale Professor Charles Perrow is warning that if the cleanup of Fukushima is not handled with 100% precision that humanity could be threatened "for thousands of years"…
Conditions in the unit 4 pool, 100 feet from the ground, are perilous, and if any two of the rods touch it could cause a nuclear reaction that would be uncontrollable. The radiation emitted from all these rods, if they are not continually cool and kept separate, would require the evacuation of surrounding areas including Tokyo. Because of the radiation at the site the 6,375 rods in the common storage pool could not be continuously cooled; they would fission and all of humanity will be threatened, for thousands of years.

Somehow he has made a career out of selling fear due to all the prepper advertisements on his third tier website. He was a failed lawyer who somehow believes he is now an economist among many other professions that require an intense amount of schooling. I bought his book as a joke off of amazon because it was only 2 dollars and a thousand monkeys on typewriters could have come up with a better story. Although news channels have purposely neglected to cover the Fukashima disaster, people need to purposely forget michael snyder as any credible news source.

I tried to get information as to whether testing is being done from both provincial and federal officials last month. All roads lead back to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency whom I spoke with. They were told to stop testing 2 years ago, and they have not been told to resume any testing. SO....I would like to know where did this statement come from? Sharon, your comments are noble, but unrealistic. Solar and wind based power generation is at best a novelty when compared to the needs of the production of electricity. The current technology just is not there to produce the massive amount of wattage needed to maintain our present demands. It would take massive amounts, 1000's of acres of solar panels just to produce enough power for one small city, and even then it would need to be supplemented by existing plants. Wind turbines have also been a disappointment in production and even they have severe environmental impacts. It may be 50 to 100 years before a safe renewable energy source is commercially viable.

Well I think ITs about time to pack up shop and move to the east coast. I think its funny that japan is trying to fix it and REUSE IT!!!! Also the media IS NOT going to cover this. Two things will happen #1 wide spread panic and people over reacting and #2 people on the other side of the spectrum saying its fake and everyone is crazy in there delusional state. Not a single data point is presented yet the author feels compelled in expressing his result as a conclusive "absolutely fried". GIVE. ME. A. BREAK.

As exhibited by the loon comments thus far to this article, the bait has been swallowed and the hype continues....so you can live in fear and so you can continue to propagate fear on behalf of the propagandists.

This articles is completely baseless and without merit. There is no presentation of analytical (measurement) data from any independent unbiased research group or individual. Do you really believe that there are not capable (amateur) professionals other than the government monitoring the air and water, and this event??

You should begin to learn what the truth is. You can only begin to understand the truth once you have taught yourself. No one will bring the truth to you, and this article is a perfect example of how they tell you what you want to hear and you continue the fear mongering on their behalf.

I was in Northern California for 3 weeks in September 2012, didn't notice ANY of this!! Sea Lions seemed fine, etc. Not sure of other details, I'm not a scientist. I think this is hype. No doubt that quake did some major damage and proves we should NOT rely on nuclear energy, but articles like this go way over the top.

This is absolute garbage. First, all foods contain naturally-occurring radiation with potassium-rich fruits like bananas having a fair amount (although still far, far below anything considered dangerous). Second, a recent, peer-reviewed study of pacific bluefin tuna, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, found that a 7 ounce serving contains about 1/20th the radiation that you would get from eating one organic banana.

Third, the researchers looked at the isotopes found in the bluefin tuna and found that the *naturally occurring* isotopes were present in amounts that were orders of magnitude larger than the amounts traceable to the Fukushima accident.

So please, *please* don't go spreading this garbage around - learn to think for yourself.

Yes, we realize you do not do "your homework", otherwise you would already know that everything Snyder has presented here is well-documented, proven fact, and that the entire world (other than the U.S. Lamestream media) has been investigating, recording, and distributing this information since right after the event in 2011. What Snyder has given you here is a summary, for YOUR convenience, of the actual (true) situation and the prospects we all face in the future due to the wreckless contamination of the seas and atmosphere caused by the Fukushima disaster. It would be a starting point, if read by a mature adult, that enables a serious study of the issue from category to category (conveniently listed above). Spent the day at China Beach in San Fran this past weekend: wow, the wildlife was incredible. Multiple dolphin sightings, then a sea lion, sand crabs and then a big crab near the shore. Lots of mussels off the rocks. Sea gulls galore.... Looks good to me! But I also do believe in the widespread consequences and global disruption/damage by Fukushima.... I live on the coast of Oregon and know most of this is real ...U.c.burkley just did the research on our fish ...its not good , I would definatly NOT EAT any sea food , sea products , or buy anything from japan to the west coast . All fish witch travel will be effected ... the leaking is out of control and yet japan is not screening for help .this IS A CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY ... its the supreme evidence that big biz.rules this world and none of us count for anything but a few tax $$$$ to fund there gain . This is bunk and more scare tactics. The article sites a map from the "Nuclear Emergency Tracking Center" that makes it sound like an official agency. The website quotes the Bible, lol. This kind of "reporting" gets a lot of readers but all and all it's crazy bat shit stuff. Readers ought to be smarter and check sources.

1) It is extremely expensive to build. It uses our tax money to help build it with the corporations. This funnels all the money from anyone wanting electrical power into a few, powerful hands.

the sources on this site are awful. these numbers may seem scary until you research what they actually mean. for example the tuna caught off california had cesium 3% higher than normal levels, and well within safety standards. even off fukushima they've resumed fishing, and they're 10x more strict when it comes to radiation limits (100 Bq/kg compared to roughly 1000 Bq/kg in the US/EU). not to mention there hasn't a single death as a result of this "disaster".

7. The referenced link says the research was done between Japan and Guam, not between Hawaii and west coast. It also does not state weather the levels were high or low.

8. The article mentions that the radiation levels in the fish were a mere 3% over typical yearly background levels. 3% of human background levels would be the equivalent of 3 chest X-rays or... 10% the amount of radiation received from a mammogram.

Now why did I waste all this time proving your points are invalid? Yawn.

I am born in 1994, 8 years after the terrible accident at Chernobyl.
My mom gave birth to my older brother in 1986, already then there were signs of malfunctioning on bodyparts within the first year of life, and even several deaths. This made me wonder alot about radiation and the effect it have on humans. We Norwegians are very fond of making and eating our own food and product. The problem were also trading food with Sweden and Finland. When I walk at the cemetaries I can find many deathstones with babies dying within 1 year, or at birth, from 1986-1992. There are more common deaths among babies in this period. It may come as a shock for you, but alot of babies are dying, and we need to spread good energy for all people around the Pacific Occean. I've read that these radiation clouds, or whatever they've called, may actually hit Norway through the Mexico Gulf. This is very interesting, and yet scary. Still not believe this is actually happening, without any further ado.

ANY system can fail at some time for some reason.
Preference should be given to systems that "fail safe", i.e. fail in such a way as to protect human life and property.
In the "system" of nuclear energy, THORIUM is a "fail safe" system. Uranium is NOT!

What is special about thorium?

There is a nuclear technology called thorium that has the ability to provide all the energy that we need for the next 10,000 years in the United States. We built one of these reactors at Oak Ridge in the 1960s, and we proved that it works.

"US physicists in the late 1940s explored thorium fuel for power. It has a higher neutron yield than uranium, a better fission rating, longer fuel cycles, and does not require the extra cost of isotope separation. The plans were shelved because thorium does not produce plutonium for bombs."

Thorium is as abundant as lead, (it is in COAL!) and produces far less radioactive waste than uranium. Thorium comes out of the ground as a 100% pure, usable isotope, which does not require enrichment, whereas natural uranium contains only 0.7% fissionable U235. But development was shunted aside by the FedGov because it could not be used to exterminate its enemies.

All the impassioned anti-nuclear agitation of the last half century, all the delay and all of the admittedly overstated danger, and all the massive dependence on oil with its potential for conflict in the Middle East, could have been avoided if only the FedGov had not been fixated on weapons of mass destruction. I knew that government had screwed up nukes but I did not know the enormous, wicked extent of the deception.

By weight, thorium can produce 200 times as much energy as uranium, reactors are cheaper to design and waste, much cheaper to store - even if it is stored; for in thorium reactors, the waste can be regenerated for use as fuel. It is also inherently safer, since its fission reaction has to be primed; absent an external neutron stream, it shuts down automatically.

Control rods are not needed, either to regulate energy production or to stop fission in an emergency, because the fission rate is determined by the proton accelerator. If the accelerator stops sending protons, fission stops almost instantly.

Thorium is in coal. Take the thorium out of the coal, use it as a power source, and then turn the coal into synfuel. The Germans perfected this process, and there is actually now a commercial plant running in South Africa by a company called Sasol.

India is switching to thorium and China is committed to extensive use of this technology.

It is not long. Read all the way to the bottom. There is plenty to be concerned about that is based on real science. It takes time and effort to find sources to trust. Spend some time finding web sites and authors that are trustworthy. Most of the information out there is just to generate revenue clicks for the web site owners. Unfortunately, the more sensational and exaggerated, the more clicks they get. Neither the right nor the left are innocent. But there is good information and research being done. You won't find it if you are being lazy and just want to reinforce your current prejudices.

The fact that this guy doesn't even know the difference between Radiation and Contamination renders him as completely ignorant on the entire matter.
That difference was like the first thing I learned when I was being trained as a nuclear operator.
It's Radiation 101. I know schoolchildren that know the difference.

I am nuclear trained - I'm a qualified Reactor Operator - and I live in the Tokyo Bay area. I've been denouncing articles like this for years for their lack of intelligence or real fact - they're based on assumptions and completely disregard the natural order of nature, and function only on sensationalism.

Andrew Thaler's article, linked a couple posts above mine, perfectly rips this article apart in ways I never could - he's a Marine biologist and has an entirely different field of study than mine. He says he's not a Nuclear Physicist - in all technicality, for all of my training and experience, I'm not really either, but compared to this 28 Signs article, I might as well be - and let's face it, you don't need a "nuclear physicist," that's just the term everyone jumps to because they don't know the qualifications. I am, however, a qualified Radiation Worker. That doesn't really mean much to nuclear operators - all have to be - but it does mean I know a thing or two about contamination. I did help with surveys around the Tokyo Bay area in March '11, and I did get Internal Monitoring done on myself - only to find I got so little radiation dose, that those fleeing to America by plane got more by being that much closer to the sun than I did by staying. (my 40microSieverts to their 70.)

In short: This is the kind of article my entire reactor department laughs at, because it's just so silly, illogical, and it contradicts itself, and flat out wrong, and Andrew Thaler has shown us why the Marine Biologist community does as well.

I live on the West Coast and have never ever come across any of these things, The Salmon low was due to Fisheries playing down numbers(Salmon were actually recorded by test fishers showing millions),however natives have continued fishing right through. Really another Global warming issue with radiation now as a playing piece.

It would have been great if we could at least patch it up like Chernobyl but unlike then, Fukushima has still not "blown up." Chernobyl was a full blown nuclear explosion but Fukushima is still in the middle of a melt down. They can't do anything because this situation is still ongoing.

Japanese politicians are mostly liars but the reason why everyone is helping them hide the truth is #1 there's nothing that they can do to fix this (they can't even assess the situation because no one and not even machines can be put into that area) #2 If Japan admits to this, there'll be a chaos at Wall Street. Financial crisis of 2008? That was just testing the waters compared to what you'd end up with.

Japan has banned all sales of fish over a year ago, and the amount of pollution is rapidly increasing until they can control it. Please if you want the truth dont read this article. Read the citations. If you investigate each individual situation of the 28 it gets knocked down to 0. I'm not saying that this is not a disaster and nothing should be done. I'm just saying that the evidence provided as proof on this article is not supportive of the claims made in the article. They even provide links to there sources. That if you actually read the sources this article twists every one of them to meet there needs. I am not saying the supporters of this page are sheep, but this article does not support its claim. I am saying they are sheep if they choose the convenient answer of blaming Fukushima as the cause of all the planets ills, ill that were well established before that event. Fukushima makes a great whipping boy for the real cultprit. US!

The production of coal, oil&gas, and the petrochemical industry are a real disaster. Think about how many production accidents and deaths (rigs and mines and plants), how many distribution accidents (pipelines, derailments, rigs, ships), and of course the radiation (yes really - coal), pollution and CO2 that are actually warming our oceans, acidifying the oceans, and actually killing the sealife.

How could that slow death be responsible? When the single bullet of Fukushima is so much easier to satisfy our consciences.
